If I could turn back time

On 4th July, we're travelling back in time for #hearinglosshour to share some advice with our younger selves. Will you join us?

Fancy dress is optional, but it would be good to see some eighties outfits in our timeline for those visiting younger selves in that iconic period!

If I could go back in time, what advice would I give to myself following my diagnosis of otosclerosis (progressive hearing loss) at the age of 30? And what tips would I give to myself following my sudden sensorineural hearing loss in my 'good' ear twelve years later?

Well, I think the main gift I'd give myself is the knowledge that other people don't care if you have hearing loss or use hearing aids - and I mean that in a good way. In a 'Get over yourself, Angie!' way.

I'd say, "Nobody's looking in your ear. Wear your hair in a ponytail if you want to. And, even if someone does see your hearing aids, so what? Being able to follow conversations and hold down a job are waaa-y more important than you feeling self-conscious.

"Being open about your hearing loss can be quite liberating. Once you've explained your communication needs, the onus of understanding conversation isn't entirely on you. Don't be so hard on yourself. Relax."

There's other stuff I'd share too, like the technology I've found useful and the support that's around. What would you tell yourself?

JULY'S QUESTIONS

Because of me being sent to 'Twitter jail' last month, I'm sharing all the questions in advance this month. I hope that helps!
